John Root, AIA

John is a seasoned architect with over 23 years of experience, recognized for his commitment to a well-rounded architectural practice. His multidisciplinary approach draws from a wide range of project types—retail, office, healthcare, residential, adaptive reuse, and hospitality—bringing creative and responsive thinking to every project. Designs are shaped through a thoughtful balance of imagination and practicality, ensuring they reflect the needs and shared vision of the people they serve.

Throughout his career, John has led and contributed to a range of high-profile projects. He managed the design, oversight, and fast-track construction of what was, at the time, the largest computer manufacturing facility in North America for Dell Computers. Over the years, he has also played key roles in managing some of the most complex construction efforts, including work within Nashville’s state-of-the-art Music City Center and, more recently, the execution of a 20,000-square-foot child care facility located beneath the technically demanding Nashville Yards development. These experiences have shaped his versatile approach to architecture, blending large-scale technical expertise with a creative, hands-on design philosophy.

John holds both Architecture and Interior Architecture degrees from the beloved plains of Auburn University. He is a registered AIA architect with NCARB certification and is licensed in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and a couple more inactives. In 2009, he founded rootARCH, initially working from a renovated historic single-family home in an emerging historic Nashville neighborhood. Since then, rootARCH has grown into a respected practice known for innovative design, deep knowledge of zoning codes and construction, and a client-focused approach.

At rootARCH, we believe in the power of collaboration. We are passionate about working closely with clients who share our vision for thoughtful, forward-thinking design. Our goal is to build long-term partnerships rooted in trust and understanding, tailoring each project to meet our clients’ unique needs and aspirations. By combining creativity with a client-centric process, we consistently deliver work that is both functional and inspiring. Rooted in a deep commitment to excellence, we strive to craft architectural experiences that stand the test of time.

With 18 years of experience, Blake has worked on various project types, including commercial, civic, institutional, and adaptive reuse. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, creativity has always been a significant influence on his life and hobbies. He has a unique passion for music and is an active sports fan. Outside of work, Blake spends much of his time with his wife, son, and daughter.

Jeff Goff, AIA

Jeff was Born in Tennessee and raised in Texas. Jeff found his way to architecture through an early interest in drawing and curiosity in science. After completing his Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Tennessee, he spent a few years working overseas before settling back in Nashville. He spent nine years working with two college friends designing, renovating and building various residential projects in the historic Nashville neighborhood of Germantown. With the team often working as demolition crew, fabricators, finish painters and all points in between, Jeff gained a wide knowledge of the built environment. Following a short time on his own, he joined rootARCH in 2012 and has spent his time since on a wide variety of projects across the city. His wife and son keep him happy, healthy and active in his spare time, while a family history of craftsmen keep him in the woodshop whenever possible; often with his young son along his side.
